Mid-Life Tune Up

FAQS

WHAT MAKES THIS PROGRAM DIFFERENT FROM OTHERS?

The program seeks to address the root cause of many underlying health issues experienced mid-life by targeting the gut via an anti-inflammatory diet. It additionally integrates other scientifically proven lifestyle habits such as exercise, stress reduction, quality sleep, and mindset training to assist in rebalancing and optimizing health. Strategies that work for one may not work for the other, so addressing your personal challenges via individual and/or group coaching can help you stay on track.

DO I NEED TO TAKE SUPPLEMENTS TO GET STARTED?

There are no required supplements. Recommendations for specific supplements are customized during our initial individual sessions depending on your current regimen.

WHO IS THIS PROGRAM GOOD FOR?

This program is designed for women ages 40-69 wanting to look and feel their best. This program may help you lose unwanted weight; decrease inflammation; improve your energy, mood, and brain health; and instill an overall sense of well being.

WHAT IS REQUIRED OF ME?

Be prepared to challenge your mindset, maintain a positive attitude, and follow the plan. You will be setting goals that are aligned with your vision of what’s possible and realistic for the next 5 weeks.

WHAT WILL HELP ME SUCCEED?

Committing to the process, setting goals that include exercise and stress reduction, a positive mindset, meal planning, and persistence will help you succeed. Here’s one of my client’s texts (edited for privacy). Notice how focused, goal oriented, and persistent she was even 6-weeks after completing one of my 28-day “Be Healthy” programs.

“Hi there! I am sticking to my health goals: 1) eating nutritiously & consciously 95% of the time (… when I don’t, I don’t feel my best, I’m working that out); 2) attending kettlebell classes 3-4X/week …- I’m setting an intention to get Russian Kettlebell Certified this September!; 3) I’m meditating daily; setting intentions; … . Izzy – this is a HUGE year for me. I am so excited! Also, I love the USANA supplements. Thank you again for your program and all of your words and words of encouragement!”

I'M WEIGHT LOSS RESISTANT AND HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING. WHAT IF THIS DOES NOT WORK?

This is *not* a fad diet. You must follow through with this plan to find out what works for you and maintain long-term healthy lifestyle habits. Most people notice improvements in different areas of health at different times throughout the program. Based on how your body responds, we may need to tweak your plan further or change it. If you still don’t notice improvements, I can refer you to a health care or a functional medicine practitioner who will perform lab work to assess your health issues.

ELIMINATING THESE FOODS IS TOO OVERWHELMING FOR ME. CAN I STILL DO THIS PLAN?

Yes, you can eliminate foods in groups (gluten, dairy, soy, etc.), but it may take much longer for you to get needed answers. You may need to work with me individually as your coach beyond the 5 weeks.

WHEN CAN I EXPECT RESULTS?

Those who choose to implement the initial 3-5 day jumpstart may experience weight loss quickly; up to 2-3 pounds per day. Overall results will vary with each individual based on compliance and particular health issues. Some notice right away while others begin to feel better after a few weeks.

WHAT UNWANTED SIDE EFFECTS SHOULD I PREPARE FOR?

Regardless of where you begin, the first few days are always the hardest. You may experience withdrawals from sugar, wheat, caffeine, and alcohol if you’re a daily consumer. These foods may be addictive therefore their removal may have a negative impact mood, cravings, irritability, and energy.

By sticking to the diet recommendations your body will eventually make a switch and begin to feel better. After a few days to weeks, many people experience better energy, better digestion, deeper sleep, clearer skin, more stable moods, clearer minds, and looser clothes! This can be life changing when you maintain the lifestyle habits that make you feel better.

I THOUGHT FAT WAS BAD FOR ME. SHOULDN'T I LIMIT IT? (PER KRESSER INSTITUTE)

“The biggest mistake people make on this program is not eating enough fat. You’re eliminating a lot of foods from your diet (bread, grains, beans, etc.), and you have to replace those calories with something. Healthy fat is that something. Healthy fat doesn’t make you fat. Food toxins like wheat, fructose and seed oils – along with other aspects of the modern lifestyle – make you fat. Fat is the preferred fuel source of the body and can constitute up to 60-70% of calories in this program. We’ll work together on finding the best macronutrient breakdown for you.”

WHAT HAPPENDS IF I CHEAT?

Perfection doesn’t exist so nobody is expected to comply 100% of the time forever. However, if you are sensitive to a food, struggle with blood sugar issues, experience joint pain, or have an autoimmune condition for instance, one piece of toast or a glass of milk could trigger the inflammatory process and symptoms. This is likely to make the process more confusing and frustrating. Therefore, it is easier to stick with it for the initial 21-30 day period as recommended. At some point, your taste buds will change and you will begin to crave the healthier foods. As you heal, it may even be possible to consume the foods you love once in a while without impacting your body’s inflammatory process.

DO I NEED TO COUNT CALORIES OR CONSUME A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF PROTEIN, FAT, OR CARBOHYDRATES?

No! By consuming non-processed foods, you will learn to listen to your body’s cues for hunger, and will become more aware of which macronutrient ratio works best for you based on energy and how you feel. I will help you with this process in our private sessions. Enjoy the process and relax!

I DON'T THINK I CAN DO THIS...

If it were easy, everyone would be healthy and look their best. That’s why it’s so important to stay connected with the reasons you are doing this in the first place. Find support by having a spouse, friend or family member do it with you. As your coach, I will support you through the ups and downs.
